Sometimes our blogs do not load up all that quickly. You type the address in your browser, go get a cup of coffee, and by the time you come back, it might be done. If this is the case for you, or you are getting reports from your readers, it is time to do something about it. Here are a couple of ideas.
Upgrade your Hosting – It may be time to take the plunge and purchase a larger hosting package. This is especially true if you are on a small plan and you have thousands of readers. With them all accessing the site at once, it slows down.
Clean up Plugins – Depending on how many plugins you have installed, these could be bogging down your blog. Some use up a lot of resources to do their jobs. Go through and see how many you no longer use due and delete them – they may be only serving on purpose that another plugin does or they are no longer relevant. De-activating is not good enough as they still take up room on your servers.
Site Cleanup – Your site may be doing things itself that causes slow load times. It could be that there is music that loads and starts playing when a visitor arrives (likely best to remove this, most people do not like these plugins) or there could be large java applications that start up.
If you are not sure how your site is loading, ask a few friends to check it out and report back or ask your followers on Facebook/Twitter. It is also a good idea to find out which browsers are being used as that can cause a difference.
