How to Find Blogging Jobs
BloggerWhen I was laid off from my editing job last fall, I had to quickly start over. I knew I wanted to keep working from home, and I wanted to do more writing and less editing. I soon discovered that the best way to do this was through blogging.
Blogging is a great way to write about a wide variety of topics for multiple companies, which allows you to rapidly build both your resume and your portfolio. Most blogging jobs allow you to work from home at whatever hours you wish, making blogging just about the most flexible gig there is. But how do you go about finding blogging jobs?
It’s easier than you might think! Here are some tips in finding a blogging job you’ll love.
Search, search, search. As soon as you plug in “blogging jobs” or “blogger jobs” into Google you are going to get about 15 million hits. I don’t recommend applying to all of these, but definitely apply to the ones that grab you. To refine your search, add the genre or niche that you’re into, like “entertainment blogging jobs” or “animal blogger jobs.” Phrases like “blogger wanted,” “bloggers needed,” or “freelance writing jobs” will also work.
Set up keyword alerts. Once you know what kind of blogger you want to be, set up a keyword alert for that phrase (or multiple alerts for multiple phrases). This will send all of the day’s new posts containing that phrase straight to your inbox. Use any of the keywords mentioned above or create your own.
Check the best job sites. These sites are gold. I’ve gotten quite a few bites from using them and heartily recommend them to any writer—fledgling or veteran. Here are some of the best of the best:
AboutFreelanceWriting—New jobs are posted every few days, plus TONS of writing tips.
The Freelance Writing Jobs Network—Plenty of jobs, tips and resources to keep you busy every day.
Online Writing Jobs—Thousands of ads, all in one place.
Morning Coffee—This site can send leads right to your inbox.
Craigslist—Though it’s been getting a bad rap from murderers, prostitutes and the like, it’s still a great place to find gigs. I’ve found a few there myself.
If all else fails, you might consider starting your own blog. You can use ads on your blog to make money, or simply build up your blogging skills to apply for more blogging jobs. There are new ones listed every day, so chances are there’s something out there for you.
